Overview
Turn a short MP4, WebM, or MOV clip into an animated GIF for a moment that works without sound. Choose one file up to 100 MB; on-device processing may allow a smaller file depending on your device. Processing may run on-device or online, so check the available mode and access requirements before you start. With the shared editor unchanged, the standard GIF uses a width of 480 pixels and 10 frames per second.
With the shared editor unchanged, the standard conversion creates an animated GIF at the configured defaults of 10 frames per second and 480 pixels wide, with height scaled proportionally. The conversion samples frames, scales the image, and uses a color palette. GIF is an indexed-color format with no audio track, so inspect the saved animation’s timing, colors, and text readability.
When to use
- Use a GIF when a short visual moment communicates the idea without narration, music, or other sound. Keep a video version when audio matters.
- For a moment inside a longer recording, prepare the section with Trim Video first. The Timeline helps you locate a moment, but scrubbing it does not trim the GIF export.
How to use
Open Video to GIF and choose one MP4, WebM, or MOV file up to 100 MB. If you need only part of a longer recording, save that section with Trim Video first, then use the shorter file. Successful decoding depends on the streams inside the file.
Use Video preview and Playback controls to inspect the clip; scrub the Timeline to find the moment you want. These controls help you review and navigate, but do not trim the export. Source and Program viewers show the original and editor preview separately. Keep the shared editor unchanged for the standard GIF path: the configured GIF width and frame-rate controls are not shown, and editor changes can lead to MP4 or WebM output.
Check the processing mode and access requirements shown. Eligible on-device processing is available to guests on compatible devices; online processing requires sign-in and an internet connection. Select Process Video to GIF and wait for the result.
Select Download and verify that the saved file is a GIF. In the intended viewer, check its movement, duration, colors, text readability, and file size. GIF output has no audio, so keep the original video if you need its sound.

Examples & use cases
A social media editor preparing a silent reaction clip.
Save a short reaction as a GIF
A few seconds of a reaction in a longer, 1920 × 1080 MP4 recording are the moment to share; the rest of the recording is unnecessary.
MP4 to GIF
- Save the reaction as a shorter file with Trim Video; the Timeline here helps locate the moment but does not trim the export.
- Keep the shared editor unchanged for the standard GIF path, which defaults to 480 pixels wide and 10 frames per second. Check the downloaded file type and the animation’s start and end.
Expected outcome
A GIF made from the prepared short clip. Open the download and check that the reaction starts and ends at the intended moments and that the file is a GIF.
A support writer making a silent interface demonstration.
Make a GIF of an interface step
A WebM screen recording shows a button interaction with extra time before and after it. Labels visible during the interaction need to be readable in the final animation.
WebM to GIF
- Use Trim Video to save only the needed section. Scrub the Timeline to locate it, then use Video preview and playback to inspect the interaction and labels; navigation alone does not trim the export.
- Leave editor settings unchanged for the standard GIF path. Open the downloaded GIF and check its timing and text readability.
Expected outcome
A GIF made from the prepared demonstration segment. Check its timing and whether the labels are readable in the downloaded animation.
A teacher preparing a visual science demonstration.
Share a visual demonstration
A short motion sequence in a MOV clip can stand alone visually, but the clip’s spoken explanation is also important to the lesson.
MOV to GIF
- If the sequence is part of a longer recording, prepare that section with Trim Video first. A GIF shows the visual moment but does not carry audio.
- Use preview and playback to review the sequence, and leave editor settings unchanged for the standard GIF path. Open the download to check the full motion and duration; retain the MOV for narration.
Expected outcome
A silent GIF of the visible sequence. Check that its motion and duration suit the lesson, and keep the MOV for the spoken explanation.
More ways to use it
- A product team documenting a short interface interaction.: The team needs a silent animation of one step in a longer recording and wants to locate the relevant moment before converting. A GIF made from a separately trimmed source section. Check the downloaded file type, movement, and any text shown in the clip.
- A presenter sharing a visual moment from a narrated clip.: The motion works as a short animation, but the explanation matters too and cannot be included in a GIF. A silent GIF for the visual moment, with the original video retained for its audio. Check the animation and use the video wherever the explanation is needed.
Troubleshooting
The download is MP4 or WebM instead of a GIF.
Try this: Keep the shared editor unchanged for the standard GIF path, then check the downloaded file type.
What to expect: The standard action uses the GIF path when the shared editor is unchanged. Editor changes can route processing to video output, so the downloaded file type may differ.
The animation includes more of the recording than you intended.
Try this: Save the desired section with Trim Video, then convert that shorter file.
What to expect: The GIF is made from the file supplied to the converter. Timeline navigation alone does not trim the export.

Frequently asked questions
Can I adjust the GIF width or frame rate here?
The current shared editor does not show the configured GIF width or frame-rate controls. With the editor unchanged, the standard conversion uses a width of 480 pixels and 10 frames per second. Check the downloaded animation rather than expecting to set those values here.
Why is there no sound in the GIF?
GIF output has no audio track. Keep the video when music, narration, or another sound is important to the result.
Which video formats can I convert to GIF?
The tool accepts one MP4, WebM, or MOV file up to 100 MB. Whether a particular file decodes successfully depends on the streams inside it.
Can I choose which part of the video becomes a GIF?
Prepare the section first with Trim Video, then convert the shorter file. Scrubbing the Timeline helps you find a moment but does not trim the GIF export.
How does the Video to GIF conversion work?
The standard action creates an animated GIF from the video. GIF uses indexed colors; the conversion samples frames, scales the image, and uses a color palette. Check the saved animation’s timing, colors, and text readability.
Will converting a video to GIF preserve its quality?
Exact color reproduction and lossless preservation are not established. GIF uses indexed colors, so inspect the downloaded animation’s colors, movement, and text readability against the source.
How can I reduce the file size of a converted GIF?
No GIF size control is documented here. Output size can vary with duration, dimensions, and frame count, so use a short source segment and check the resulting file size. The standard width and frame-rate controls are not shown in the current shared editor.
Can I convert a video to GIF without uploading it?
Eligible on-device processing is available to guests on compatible devices and does not require uploading the source for that processing path. Check the mode shown before processing; online processing requires sign-in and an internet connection.
Can I use this tool without an account?
Guest access is available for eligible on-device processing on compatible devices. Online processing requires sign-in, so check which mode is available for your task before you start.
How are uploaded videos handled?
On-device processing keeps the source video on your device. Online processing uploads it and requires sign-in and an internet connection. Completed cloud results may remain available in Tasks for later download. See https://mioffice.ai/privacy for current retention details. Uploaded files are not used to train AI models.
Why is my GIF larger than the original video?
The resulting size varies with duration, dimensions, and frame count; a fixed output size is not promised. Check the actual GIF size. If the source is longer than needed, prepare a shorter segment with Trim Video before converting.
Can I edit a GIF after converting?
This tool’s documented workflow converts one MP4, WebM, or MOV video file to GIF; it does not document editing an existing GIF. Shared editor changes during conversion can route processing to MP4 or WebM instead, so verify the downloaded file type if you use editor adjustments.
Can I speed up or slow down the GIF?
The workspace has a Speed control, but editor adjustments can route processing to MP4 or WebM rather than GIF. GIF output with advanced changes is not established; keep the editor unchanged for the standard GIF path and check the downloaded file type.
Can I make a GIF from multiple photos?
This tool accepts one MP4, WebM, or MOV video file. Converting a collection of photos into an animation is not a documented input workflow here.
Can I convert multiple videos at once?
The documented input is one video file per conversion, up to 100 MB. The supplied workflow does not describe batch conversion.
How long should a GIF be?
No recommended maximum duration is specified for this tool. Choose a short segment suited to the moment you want to show, then check the resulting animation’s duration and file size.
What resolution or aspect ratio should I use?
The standard conversion uses a width of 480 pixels, with height scaled proportionally. A separate GIF resolution or aspect-ratio control is not shown in the current shared editor; inspect the downloaded animation for the dimensions and framing you need.
Does a converted GIF loop continuously?
Seamless or continuous looping is not established for this output. Open the downloaded GIF in the viewer where you plan to use it and check its playback behavior.
Can I convert a video to GIF on my phone?
On-device processing availability depends on device capability and routing. Check the processing mode shown for your task; online processing requires sign-in and an internet connection.
Is there a maximum video file size?
The picker limit is one file up to 100 MB. On-device processing may allow a smaller file depending on the device.
