Overview

Connect your other device with a code, link or QR code, then choose Transfer Current Page. Check which page is open before you send: this handoff does not move your whole browser session.

Know which page you are sending

Transfer Current Page uses the page currently open in the sending tab. Opening this standalone Device Handoff tool means that the handoff page itself is the current page; it does not recover the tool you were editing before you opened it.

Save your work before switching. This handoff does not carry an uploaded file or your sign-in session, and you should not expect every tool setting to follow.

Pair the devices

Choose Generate Handoff Code on the sending device. On your other device, open the QR code or shared link. Or enter the code in Device Handoff and choose Join. Leave both pages open while they connect.

Wait for Device connected, then select Transfer Current Page on the sending device. Check the destination device itself to confirm which page opens.

Check the destination before you leave

The handoff can include the page address, scroll position and text fields from forms. Some state may be held temporarily in the receiving browser while it navigates, but restoration is not guaranteed for every page or tool.

Look at the receiving device and check the page and important fields yourself. Page Sent! on the sender does not confirm that everything was restored. Once you have checked, use Disconnect on the sender.

Choose the receiving device carefully

Share the code or QR link only with the device you intend to connect. Page addresses and text entered in forms may be included in the handoff, so review sensitive information before sending.

For an actual file, use Transfer Files and verify the saved copy. For a walkthrough that someone can watch, use Screen Share instead.

Examples & use cases

Someone switching devices

Open a page on your other device

You want to continue reading a page on another screen.

Current page address to The page opened on the receiving device

  1. Check the page currently open in the sending tab.
  2. Generate a code, connect your other device, and wait for Device connected.
  3. Choose Transfer Current Page and check the destination.

Expected outcome

The standalone tool sends its own current page. It does not recover a previously open editing tool.

Someone switching devices

Move the page while keeping an original copy of your work

A device change should not risk unsaved editing work.

Current page information to A page handoff to verify

  1. Save your work and download any file you need first.
  2. Pair the devices and transfer the current page.
  3. Sign in separately if needed and check the destination fields.

Expected outcome

Uploaded files and sign-in sessions do not transfer. Use Transfer Files separately for a file.

Access & cost

Creating a handoff may require sign-in and credits. Joining by code may also show a sign-in or credit prompt. Review the access shown on both devices.

Questions about Device Handoff

Does this transfer the file I was editing?

Do not rely on it for files. The handoff captures page information and string fields, not file contents. Use Transfer Files when you need the other device to receive a file.

Do I need to scan a QR code?

No. You can open the shared link or enter the room code in Device Handoff and select Join.

Will I arrive at exactly the same editing state?

That is not guaranteed. The standalone tool sends its current page, and page-state recovery is limited. Check the receiving device and keep a saved copy of important work.

Will I still be signed in on the other device?

Device Handoff does not transfer your sign-in session. You may need to sign in separately on the receiving device. Keep the original tab open until you have checked what arrived.
