Overview

Remove an unwanted object from a photo by painting over it, checking the reconstructed area, and downloading the result as a PNG. Choose a smaller Brush Size near details you want to keep and a larger size for broad areas. Remove Object accepts one JPG, JPEG, PNG or WebP image up to 25 MB at a time. Processing may run on-device or in the cloud; sign-in and an internet connection are required. Keep your original and inspect the filled area before using the edited image.

You paint a selection over the area to remove. Remove Object fills that area using surrounding visual context, so the result is a reconstruction. Not a recovery of the original hidden scene. Processing may happen on-device or in the cloud; cloud processing uploads the image and painted mask. Keep the original and inspect the filled area, especially near straight edges, repeating patterns, shadows and textures.

When to use

  • Use Remove Object when you want to paint over a specific distraction in a photo, such as an unwanted item in a scene. The tool reconstructs the painted area from surrounding visual context, so compare the result with the original.
  • For a small distraction on a plain background, make a precise selection. If the goal is to cut out a subject and remove the entire background, use Remove Background instead.

How to use

  1. Open Remove Object and sign in. Add one readable JPG, JPEG, PNG or WebP image up to the displayed 25 MB limit. Keep the original for comparison. HEIC and video are not accepted.

  2. Set Brush Size, which controls the selection brush diameter on the fitted preview and is scaled to the source image for processing. Its range is 5–100 in steps of 5, with a default of 30. Paint over the unwanted object and its edges without selecting more of the surrounding scene than needed; use a smaller size near details you want to keep. Clear removes the entire painted selection so you can redraw it. Cancel leaves the editor.

  3. Select Remove Objects. Keep internet access available. Processing may run on-device or upload the image and painted mask to the cloud, depending on device capabilities, downloaded resources and service availability.

  4. Inspect the Result against the original, checking seams, straight edges, repeating patterns, shadows and surrounding details. Select Download to save the result as PNG. Process Another clears the current image and result to start a new image; to make another pass, load a saved result explicitly.

Examples & use cases

A traveler preparing a JPG for a personal photo album.

Remove a small distraction beside a chair leg

A small object sits on a plain floor close to a chair leg that should remain. The chair leg is a detail to protect while selecting the unwanted object.

JPG to PNG

Brush Size:
15
  1. Choose Brush Size 15 for a narrower selection near the chair leg; Brush Size controls the selection diameter, not removal strength.
  2. Paint over the object and its edges without selecting the chair leg. After processing, check the fill and the boundary beside the leg against the original before downloading.

Expected outcome

A PNG with the painted area reconstructed. Check whether the floor and chair-leg boundary look acceptable for the album before using the saved copy.

A small-business owner tidying a product-setting photo for review.

Clear a broad object from a simple scene

A broad unwanted object occupies an open, relatively plain area of a PNG photo. The owner wants to remove that area without painting over nearby product details.

PNG to PNG

Brush Size:
50
  1. Choose Brush Size 50 to cover the broad area more efficiently, while keeping the selection within the unwanted object and its edges.
  2. Inspect the filled area where it meets the product and the surrounding scene; check for seams or changed details before saving the PNG.

Expected outcome

A reconstructed PNG copy for review. Compare the product and the filled boundary with the original before deciding whether to use it.

A designer preparing a WebP image for a draft layout.

Try a more precise selection on a patterned background

An unwanted item overlaps a tiled background in a WebP photo. Repeated patterns can make an uneven fill noticeable, so the selection and pattern continuity need close review.

WebP to PNG

Brush Size:
20
  1. Choose Brush Size 20 to make a more precise selection around the item and avoid selecting extra tiles.
  2. After processing, inspect the repeating pattern and any seams or smudges around the filled area. If needed, try a more precise selection or remove smaller areas in separate passes, saving each result you want to keep.

Expected outcome

A PNG reconstruction to assess in the draft layout. Check whether the pattern remains acceptable around the edited area before using the copy.

More ways to use it

  • A photographer cleaning up a personal travel image.: A person or object distracts from the scene, but the photographer wants to retain nearby faces and details. A PNG with the selected area reconstructed. Compare the fill and nearby details with the original before choosing whether to keep the result. Brush Size: 20.
  • A designer preparing an image for a layout.: A small distraction sits near straight lines or repeating textures, where a broad selection could make the reconstruction harder to assess. A PNG to review for seams, pattern continuity and surrounding details before placing it in the layout. Brush Size: 15.

Troubleshooting

The selection includes part of a detail you want to keep.

Try this: Choose a smaller Brush Size near the detail. Select Clear to reset the entire painted selection, then redraw it.

What to expect: The smaller brush draws a narrower selection near the detail; check that the redrawn selection leaves the detail outside the painted area.

The filled area has smudges or breaks the pattern around it.

Try this: Try a more precise selection with a smaller Brush Size, or remove smaller areas in separate passes. Download any result you want to keep before starting another pass.

What to expect: A narrower or smaller-area selection changes what is reconstructed. Inspect the pattern, seams and surrounding details again; a clean fill is not guaranteed.

Privacy

Processing may run on-device or online. Online processing uploads the image and painted mask. Uploaded files and results may remain available after processing. See https://mioffice.ai/privacy for current retention and file-handling details.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove an object from a photo?

Open Remove Object, sign in, and add one supported image. Paint over the object and its edges, select Remove Objects, inspect the Result, and download the PNG if you want to keep it. Keep your original for comparison.

Can I remove the whole background instead?

Yes. If you want to cut out a subject rather than paint over individual objects, use Remove Background.

Why does removing an object leave repeated patterns or smudges?

The tool reconstructs the painted area using surrounding visual context. Large selections and patterned backgrounds can make the fill harder to match. Try a more precise selection or smaller areas in separate passes, then check straight lines, patterns, shadows and textures before downloading.

Can I remove a person or object and fill the background?

You can paint over an area, including a person or object, and the tool reconstructs the selected area from surrounding visual context. The fill is an estimate, not recovery of the hidden scene. Check the result carefully, especially in a busy background or near important details.

Can I remove text, logos or watermarks?

You can paint over an area of the photo, but the filled area is a reconstruction. Keep important text outside the selection unless you intend to change it, and inspect the result before using the PNG.

What image formats can I upload, and what format do I download?

The tool accepts one readable JPG, JPEG, PNG or WebP image at a time, up to the displayed 25 MB limit. The standard workflow downloads a PNG and has no output-format selector. HEIC and video are not supported inputs.

Does object removal preserve the original image quality?

The filled pixels are reconstructed, and the workflow does not guarantee pixel-perfect preservation or unchanged metadata, color profiles or alpha. Compare the edited area and downloaded PNG with the original, including seams, patterns, shadows and surrounding details.

Can I remove multiple objects from one photo or process a batch?

The picker accepts one image per edit and does not offer batch processing. You can paint an area, inspect the result, save it, and load a saved result explicitly if you want another editing pass.

Do I need an account to use Remove Object?

Yes. Sign-in and an internet connection are required for the current workspace.

Does the image stay on my device?

Processing may run on-device, where the image stays local for the edit, or in the cloud, where the image and painted mask are uploaded. The route depends on device capabilities, downloaded resources and service availability; sign-in and internet access are still required.

How are uploaded images handled?

Online processing uploads the image and painted mask. On-device processing keeps image data local for the edit. Uploaded files and results may remain available after processing. See https://mioffice.ai/privacy for current retention and file-handling details.

How long does object removal take?

Processing time depends on image size, device capabilities, resource downloads and service availability. The 25 MB picker limit does not guarantee every valid image will finish processing. If a readable image fails, try a smaller copy and keep the original.

What is Brush Size, and what value should I use?

Brush Size sets the selection brush diameter, not removal strength. It ranges from 5 to 100 in steps of 5, with a default of 30. Use a smaller size near details you want to keep and a larger size for broad areas, then inspect the selection and result.

Can I replace an object after removing it?

This workflow paints an area for removal and reconstructs that area; it has no prompt or replacement-object control. Inspect and download the PNG if you want to keep the removal result.

Can I use this for product photos or marketplace listings?

You can paint over an unwanted area in a product photo, but the filled area is a reconstruction and a clean result is not guaranteed. Check product edges, surrounding details and the downloaded PNG against the original before using it in a listing.
