Overview

Combine 2–20 PDF files into one document, with each file’s pages kept together. Arrange the files in reading order, then download and inspect the combined PDF. Guest access may be available for an eligible on-device task; the online workflow requires sign-in and an internet connection.

Merge PDF combines multiple PDF files into one PDF. Arrange the files to set their sequence; the pages within each file stay together.

When to use

  • Use Merge PDF to bring separate PDF documents (such as a report and its appendix) into one PDF.
  • If you need only certain pages from a larger PDF, prepare a PDF with those pages first, then add it to the merge. Merge PDF arranges whole files, not individual pages within a file.

How to use

  1. Open Merge PDF and use its linked workspace. Guest access may be available for an eligible on-device task. The online workflow requires sign-in and an internet connection.

  2. Choose 2–20 files that are already PDFs, up to 100 MB each. The file list shows the documents you added. Drag the file cards or rows into reading order and check their numbered positions. For example, put a cover letter first, the report next, and the appendix last. This changes the order of whole files; each file’s pages stay together. To include selected pages, prepare a PDF first with Split PDF. Renaming another file type with a .pdf extension does not convert it.

  3. When the files are in order, click Merge. Stay connected during the online workflow; processing won’t start while your browser reports that it’s offline. When the result is ready, click Download. If Auto-download is enabled, the download may start automatically. Open the saved PDF and check the joins between documents, page count, order, orientation, and any forms or links you need. Keep the originals until you’ve reviewed the combined copy.

Examples & use cases

A traveler organizing trip documents

Combine an itinerary and packing list

You have a two-page itinerary and a one-page packing list as PDFs. You want one three-page trip document, with the itinerary first and the packing list last.

.pdf to PDF

  1. Place the itinerary PDF before the packing-list PDF so the trip details come first.
  2. Open the combined copy and check that all three pages appear in order: Day 1, Day 2, then the packing list. Check the text and page order. The sample files contain no forms, links, or password protection.

Expected outcome

One combined three-page PDF to review and keep with your trip documents.

A student preparing coursework

Assemble selected report pages

Your report is spread across PDFs, and one source document includes pages that don’t belong in your submission. You need one file containing the chosen report material in the right section order.

.pdf to PDF

  1. Use Split PDF to prepare a PDF containing only the pages you need; Merge PDF arranges whole files, not pages inside a file.
  2. Arrange the report PDFs in section order. Check the combined document at each join and confirm that every expected section is present.

Expected outcome

One combined PDF containing the report material you selected, ready for review before submission.

A consultant organizing client-facing documents

Prepare a client document packet

You have several PDFs for a client packet and want to review them together before sharing. The packet needs a clear reading order.

.pdf to PDF

  1. Arrange the PDFs in the packet’s intended reading order so the whole files appear in sequence.
  2. Open the combined copy and check the page count, orientation, joins, and presence of each expected document before sharing.

Expected outcome

One combined PDF to inspect before sending to the client. Keep the source files until you finish reviewing the combined copy.

More ways to use it

  • A reader collecting reference documents: Several references are separate PDFs, making them harder to review together. Arrange the PDFs in the order you want to read them, then check the combined document for the expected references and sections.
  • A professional preparing a document packet: A packet is spread across PDFs and needs to be brought together for review before use or sharing. Put the whole PDFs in the packet’s intended order and inspect the combined document for the expected files and joins before using or sharing it.

Troubleshooting

A selected file can’t be read, or a PDF is reported as damaged or invalid.

Try this: Save a copy to your device and select it again. If the PDF is damaged or invalid, download the original again and select that copy. Make sure the selected file is actually a PDF; changing another file’s extension to .pdf doesn’t convert it.

What to expect: A valid, readable PDF is needed for the merge to proceed.

The online workflow can’t proceed while your browser reports that it’s offline.

Frequently asked questions

Can I merge a password-protected PDF?

Not while it’s locked. The merge workflow has no password-entry step, so use Unlock PDF first and add the unlocked copy.

What should I check before sending a merged PDF?

Open the downloaded file and check its page count, file order, orientation, and the joins between documents. Check any forms or links you rely on, confirm no expected section is missing, and keep the originals until you finish reviewing the combined copy.

Will the merge replace my original files?

No. The workflow provides a newly combined PDF to download. Keep your source files until you’ve inspected the result and confirmed it contains the documents you need.

How many PDF files can I merge at once?

You can choose 2–20 PDF files, up to 100 MB each. Check the workspace for any other displayed restrictions.

Can I combine PDFs with images or other file types?

Merge PDF accepts .pdf files. Prepare an image or another document type as a PDF first, then add it. For JPG files, use JPG to PDF.

Can I change the order of files or pages before merging?

You can drag file cards or rows into order and check their numbered positions. This reorders whole files, not the pages inside them. To include selected pages, prepare a PDF containing those pages first with Split PDF.

Can I merge only selected pages from several PDFs?

Merge PDF arranges whole PDF files rather than selecting pages within them. Use Split PDF to prepare the pages you want, then add the resulting PDF to the merge.

Are uploaded files safe, and when are they deleted?

Online processing uploads files. Completed results may remain available for later download. See https://mioffice.ai/privacy for current file-handling and retention details. Check the processing mode before starting.

Does Merge PDF work offline?

The online workflow requires an internet connection and won’t start while your browser reports that it’s offline. Guest access may be available for an eligible on-device task, but the available information doesn’t confirm that this merge task can run on-device offline.

Do I need to sign in to merge PDFs?

The online workflow requires sign-in and an internet connection. Guest access may be available when an eligible on-device task is offered; check the option shown in the product for this merge task.

Does merging PDFs reduce their quality?

The configured result is a combined PDF, but that alone doesn’t establish how every document feature will behave. Check the pages and any forms or links you rely on in the downloaded file before using it.

Can I see a live preview before merging?

The workspace file list shows the documents you’ve added; the available workflow doesn’t confirm a live preview. Inspect the downloaded PDF after processing to check the file order and document joins.

Does Merge PDF work on a phone or tablet?

The workflow accepts .pdf files, but the available information doesn’t specify phone or tablet compatibility. Check whether the Merge PDF workspace and its controls are available in your current browser and device.
