Sign in and check the credit requirement before processing. Encrypted PDFs and their passwords are sent to the server for decryption.

How It Works

  1. Step 1. Choose the PDF and enter its password
  2. Step 2. Download and check the unlocked copy

Choose the PDF and enter its password

Open one PDF, up to 95 MB, then type its password into Current Password under Options.

If you can open the PDF without a password but cannot use some of its features, try leaving Current Password blank. Enter a password if the tool asks for one.

Click Unlock. An incorrect-password message means you should check what you entered before trying again. If you don’t know the password, get it from the person who supplied the PDF; this tool cannot recover it.

Download and check the unlocked copy

When processing finishes, click Download. Turn off Auto-download beforehand if you want to start saving yourself.

Open the saved copy and check that it no longer asks for the password. Look through the pages and try any forms or links you rely on. Keep your original in case you need it later.

Questions about unlocking PDFs

No. The encrypted PDF and the password you enter are sent to the server for decryption.

No. Unlock PDF removes encryption; it does not provide a setting to protect the result with a different password.

Not necessarily. Password protection and file corruption are different problems. If you have the correct password but the file still will not open, try a fresh copy from the sender. Unlocking is not a general repair for damaged documents.
