How It Works

  1. Step 1. Start with the sound you want to change
  2. Step 2. Adjust the level controls
  3. Step 3. Check the downloaded file

Start with the sound you want to change

Dynamic range compression changes how loud peaks sit against quieter parts of a recording. If your goal is a smaller attachment, file format and encoding settings are a separate decision.

Upload one MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, M4A, AAC, or WMA file, up to 100 MB. Choose a passage with both quiet and loud moments so you can compare them.

Adjust the level controls

In Level, use Compress to change the compression ratio. Make a small adjustment, then listen for whether loud words or hits sit more comfortably in the recording.

Use Gain when you need to change the overall level, and check Limiter alongside it. Raising gain alone also raises the quieter parts of your recording.

Click Process Audio Compressor and listen to the result before downloading. Compare the loudest moment as well as the quietest one; a louder result is not automatically the result you want.

Check the downloaded file

Play the saved copy in the app where you plan to use it. Keep the original recording so you can try another setting if the processed version sounds too flat or changes the emphasis of the performance.

Common questions

Dynamic compression controls the difference between louder and quieter parts. It is not the same as reducing file size. For a smaller download, choose an appropriate output format and bitrate in Audio Converter.

Threshold sets the level above which compression acts. Ratio determines how strongly audio above that level is reduced. Start gently and listen to a loud passage; too much compression can make speech or music sound flat.

Strong compression or excessive makeup gain can reduce natural dynamics and emphasize background sound. Lower the compression amount and compare at similar listening levels. Louder playback can seem better at first even when detail has been lost.
