Start here when you need the words, not the page design. The TXT result leaves out fonts and images, and it will not recreate columns or tables.

How It Works

  1. Step 1. Add your PDFs
  2. Step 2. Extract the text
  3. Step 3. Save and check each result

How to extract PDF text

1. Add your PDFs

Choose up to 10 PDF files, each up to 50 MB. This tool processes the document as a whole; there is no page-range setting.

2. Extract the text

Click Extract Text. Text already present in the PDF is collected page by page. If the document yields fewer than 10 characters, an automatic English OCR attempt reads images from the first 20 pages.

3. Save and check each result

Download an individual result or use Download All for the batch. Auto-download may save the results automatically if enabled. Each successful PDF has its own TXT file; compare the result count with the files you added.

Before you reuse the words, compare headings, columns and tables with the PDF. Text is joined with spaces, so you may need to fix the reading order or spacing.

What happens with scanned or mixed PDFs?

The result is plain text. Images and formatting are not included. A page that fails extraction may leave a failure message in the TXT file, so a download alone does not prove that every page was read.

Password-protected PDFs can be skipped or fail. Unlock the file before extracting text. If a batch only partly succeeds, the available downloads can contain fewer files than you added.

Questions about PDF to Text

There is no page selector here. Split out the pages you need first, then extract text from that PDF.

The automatic OCR fallback uses English recognition. Do not rely on it for accurate recognition in other languages. Text already stored in a PDF is extracted separately from this OCR fallback.

Text extraction runs in the browser, but some processing failures may send the input file for diagnostics. Do not treat this tool as an offline-only or never-uploaded workflow.

A PDF can store positioned text without a clear paragraph reading order. Columns, headers, and tables may therefore extract unevenly. Compare the text with the PDF and reorganize it before quoting, summarizing, or importing it elsewhere.
